Who we are

NICG was established in 2016 to pave the way for like-minded corporate governance professionals in Namibia to have a common place to develop their skills, compare experiences, impart learnings and share practices, with the ultimate aim of encouraging a high-level corporate governance culture in Namibia.

Although Namibia can pride herself in being a regional and global leader in corporate governance, there is still much room for growth and improvement in order to ensure that every single Namibian citizen benefits from the ethical and effective leadership of our organisations, both public and private.

Steve Galloway
Chairperson

Steve has 40 years of working experience in exploration, mining, government, investments, corporate and project finance, banking and strategic management; and has served on boards of several financial and mining companies. Steve retired from banking in early 2017, but still serves on governing bodies of various banking, ICT, tourism, environmental, community and governance organisations and on selected policy committees.

Desmond Nikanor
Deputy Chairperson

Desmond Nikanor is an specialist Strategist and an experienced corporate Executive with a specific affinity for Strategic Management, High Performance culture establishment and Corporate governance across a number of sectors. Mr. Nikanor is a holds a Masters of Science degree in International Business from the University of London, specializing in International Management practices pertaining to strategy. He is a certified Director of Companies through the Institute of Directors for Southern Africa (IoDSA), as well as a certified Balanced Scorecard professional with the Balanced Scorecard Institute. Mr. Nikanor is also a certified Organisational Culture and Change practitioner with the Hofstede Insights institute of Helsinki, Finland.

Edla Kaumbi
Executive Director

Ms. Kaumbi, an accomplished professional with an MBA candidacy and a B.Com degree, is a certified expert in both ethics and project management. Her career, has been marked by significant contributions in the fields of audit and risk management, equipping her with a profound understanding of corporate governance.

Herexperience is characterized by her innovative approach to ethics and governance, coupled with her expertise in training and development, internal audit, and business analysis. These skills have enabled her to effectively craft and implement comprehensive governance frameworks.

Karin Coetzee
Non- Executive Director

Ms Coetzee is an admitted legal practitioner as well as a sworn translator, and has been involved in the banking and insurance industry for 14 years. Ms Coetzee has an LLB degree and Postgraduate Diploma in Taxation (H.Dip Tax) from UNISA, as well as a Certificate in Money Laundering from University of Johannesburg. Her experience in corporate governance spans over 11 years, in her position as Company Secretary of Sanlam Namibia Ltd, a position which she currently still holds.

Erenstine M Tuneeko
Non-Executive Director

Ms. Tuneeko is an admtted legal practitioner and has worked for several public enterprises as governance and legal advisor to the Board and management. Her work experience includes public law, civil litigation and legal compliance.
Ms. Tuneeko has a B. Iuris and LLB degrees from the University of Namibia.
Her experience in corporate governance spans over 14 years and includes Board membership to the Namibia Press Agency (NAMPA) where she is the Deputy-Chairperson.

Dr. Andreas Salom
Non- Executive Director

Andreas has experience over ten (10) years of experience in multi-industries ranging from military, mining, research and business development, and corporate finance. Between 2015 – 2022 he spends time in Portugal, where he has been a Researcher Fellow at the University of Porto and consultant/advisor for s start-up companies on raising capital and developing business strategies.

He joined Nedbank in August 2022 as a Relationship Manager for the Public and Mining Sectors. Currently, he is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with corporations and government institutions. That adds to the main role of raising capital and allocating capital to corporations and government institutions.

Recently, he has worked or worked in financing transactions with Namdeb, Rossing, and Road Funds Administrators, to mention a few.

Frans Kalenga

Having collaborated with major companies like Total, Shell, Puma, Engen and Sasol, Frans Kalenga has established himself as a preeminent figure in the Namibian energy sector, with a diverse and impressive background in the
petroleum industry. As the Head of Sustainable Energies at the National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia and a Technical Advisor on Green Hydrogen to Namibia's Mines and Energy Minister, Hon Tom Alweendo, his influence and expertise are widely recognised, actively shaping the future of sustainable energy both within Namibia and on the global stage.

Intimately familiar with the Namibian legislative framework, Kalenga possesses expertise in clean energy technology development, energy productivity and efficiency, energy security, associated grid, and energy market reform. In his role as Technical Advisor on Green Hydrogen, he oversees the drafting of green hydrogen and synthetic fuel policies, spearheads the development of green hydrogen and synthetic fuels strategy and roadmap, enforces
regulations, and reviews proposals from investors and the private sector. His unwavering commitment to making significant contributions to the energy sector in Namibia is complemented by his highly regarded project management acumen and ability to cultivate positive working relationships.

Dr. Martha Uumati
Non- Executive Director

Dr Martha Uumati is a dynamic intra- and entrepreneur with a passion for good corporate governance and the sustainable utilisation of Namibia’s blue economy and natural resources
to the benefit of Namibia’s current and future generations. She considers the privilege of serving on Boards as an opportunity to positively contribute to Namibia’s social and economic
growth. She currently serves as the Board Chairperson of Namdeb (Pty) Ltd, and is a Director of Namdeb Holdings (Pty) Ltd.

At present she is employed as the Managing Director of Erongo Marine Enterprises (Pty) Ltd, an Oceana Group subsidiary, a role she has occupied since February 2017. The Oceana Group
is a prominent listed entity and the foremost fishing company in southern Africa. Her qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Natural Resources (University of Namibia), a Postgraduate Diploma and a Master of Philosophy in Fisheries Biology and Fisheries Management (University of Bergen, Norway), a Doctorate of Philosophy in Marine Biology, specialising in Marine Hydro-acoustics (University of St Andrews, Scotland) and she is
currently pursuing her Executive MBA (University of Cape Town).

Joelynn Kurz
Non- Executive Director

Joelynn Kurz is an admitted legal practitioner, holding a BA Law and LLB
Degree from the University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. She holds a
Global MBA Degree from Trinity International University in Partnership with
IBR Institute of International Business Relations and an Executive
Development Programme Certificate from the University of Wits. Joelynn
is a member of the Law Society of Namibia(LSN) and of the Namibia
Women Lawyers’ Association (NWLA) Joelynn worked in the legal industry
until her admission to the High Court. She then worked as a junior legal
advisor for Sanlam Namibia Limited. She commenced in a legal
assessment role at the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA Fund) and today
she is an experienced corporate executive having served as the Chief
Legal Advisor at the MVA Fund for the past 10 years.

Marvin Amuenje
Non- Executive Director

Marvin Amuenje is a dedicated professional with 13 years of experience in mobile telecom and technology. He currently manages financial reconciliation for MTC's retail stores at Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC Finance). Marvin's expertise spans customer service, corporate affairs, and finance. During his MTC tenure, he played a key role in the successful IPO listing of MTC on the Namibian Stock Exchange, focusing on investor prospectus development.

Marvin serves as the Director of Communications at Reputation Poll International, a UK-based firm known for ranking the most reputable Africans and Bank CEOs. Education: Honours degree in Public Governance and Communications from Namibia University of Science & Technology. Certified in Digital Marketing from Coventry University London. Completed Business and Management Development program from GIBS. He actively contributes to the advancement of corporate governance practices serving as a member of the Membership, Admissions, Marketing & Business Development Committee of the NICG.
